Introduction

In this excerpt, Maj. Carl W. Plitt of the 16th Infantry regiment, the officer who referred to "Operation Nightmare," wrote, "Summing it all up, the plan for operations [sic] "NEPTUNE" was a good one, but it didn't work! It was the individual courage and heroism of the American Soldier that won the Beaches EASY RED and FOX GREEN on 6 June 1944."
