The D-Day Documents

Part 1: 1st Infantry Division Orders to Land on Omaha Beach

Introduction

"The 1st U.S. Infantry Division ... will make the initial assault on Beach OMAHA at H-Hour on D-Day with Two Regimental Combat Teams abreast, reduce the beach defenses in its zone of action ..."

On the next pages are the orders the 1st Infantry Division received for its role in the D-Day landings. At the top of the pages you'll see the word "BIGOT." That indicated that the document was even more secret than Top Secret. At the bottom is "Neptune." Operation Neptune was the code name for the D-Day landings; Operation Overlord was the code name of the battle of Normandy, which started with Neptune.
